Everything works out like a sunshine delight

Earlier this winter, myself, three of my dear best friends and my lovely parents headed off on a little adventure to Lake Tekapo. It was a skiing and girls (+ Dad) getaway.

Tekapo is famous for its starry night skies. In a flat basin, with soft hills cushioning the distance, the expanse of dark blue and glitter above you is extraordinary.

The first night we were there, we walked down to the Lake, our footsteps mirroring the setting of the sun. As the sun said goodnight, the stars began to blink open their eyes, slowly filling the sky with fairy dust.

The second night, we wandered outside just to star gaze.

Looking up at the deep sky made me feel so insignificant. But not in a bad way.

In looking upwards, I thought about how the world is so big and in comparison we are so small and so lucky to be here.

Taking it all in, I realised that little arguments, disputes, worries and fears are so unimportant, so why not be happy?

We can’t always control the circumstances around us but we can trust that everything works out in time, just as it should be. From this we should let our hearts rest.

In moments where we experience negative emotions - such as worry, fear, anger, jealously, sadness - feel those emotions, then take a step back and look up. You’ll see how insignificant all your little problems and stresses are. Breathe in the sweet air and the magic of simply being alive. Breathe out your worries and let them drift up and away to dissolve among the simple beauty of the night sky.

How we feel is always a choice.

So choose to let the negative worries go.

Choose to let in the starlight.

You are alive.

You are breathing,

And that is enough.
